| | 4, i think. We arrived to Oregon last night about 9:30, after 14 hours of driving. Got up and ran with my dad. We both think it was pretty close to 4. Felt good. |
| | 2ish miles with 200 lunges. Still in oregon and will be for a couple weeks. Got to walk with my sister who I dont see a whole lot, so it was good to chat. |

45 minutes on the elliptical. Good workout. Machine said I burned 1000 calories, but I have since learned they arent so accurate. Oh well

| | Hadnt ran since friday, so it was definately time. I went the same loop I did with my dad on friday, but added another 1 mile loop around the school. The weather was 40 ish and it was absolutely perfect for a run. Felt good and strong and actually enjoyed one or two of the hills. Not normal for me. |
| | 2 miles of walking with 200 lunges. Walked around the school twice. There is a really big hill that Joni and I walked partially up last week that I would like to do more of sometime, but not enough time today. I keep sleeping in. |

| | Great run this morning with my dad and brother in law Jason in Camas/Vancouver Washington. I had never run with Jas before so that was fun. We ran at around an 8:40 ish pace, and I think even a couple of the miles faster than that. Felt way good and happy to run with a new person. |

5 miles of walking with my mom and sister, then 200 lunges. Still in Oregon. Felt good to get out and about.

| | My dad and brother had run a 4.3 mile loop earlier and so I did the same, but added a bit more. It was so foggy a misty that I had to clean my glasses every 5 minutes or so. Good run with lots of hills. |
| | 5 miles of walking with my sister up a pretty good hill. I enjoy walking up hills much more than running up them. Then, 200 lunges. It has been fun being in Oregon, I have got a bit of variation running this and last week. Happy to be doing it.

Back to southern utah. After another 2 days of traveling I was ready for a good run. I slept in until 9:30 so I got to running about 9:45. It was pretty warm by then. I felt good and getting stronger. Next week I want to increase the miles a bit.

2 miles of walking with 200 lunges today. It felt like spring time. I wore my gloves because I assumed it would be colder and had to take them off because I was so warm.

Had to do a quick one today (or short anyway). I did try to keep a steadier, faster pace than normal and felt good. I need to do that more often.
Dont mind the hills so much anymore, I know they can help to make me stronger.

| | 2 miles of walking with 250 lunges today. As I was walking I was missing the hills of Medford. The one that I walked with my sister a couple of times. I reversed my 2 mile walk today thinking that it was more up hill that way, but after walking the hilll in Oregon, it wasnt anything. Oh well, still happy to be out there doing it!!! |

I wanted to go 10. I didnt make it, but close. Average pace 9:24. Did have a few closer to nine and one or two closer to ten. Hence the average. Felt good for the most part. About 6 I was tired, but got more juice. The last mile was a steady up hill which after 8 wasnt so easy.
All in all though, felt good. |

My friend txtd me at about 7:30 pm and invited me to go walking with her, so I did. After about 2.5 miles, it started raining pretty hard so needless to say we were both soaked by the time we got back to her house. I walk in cotton pant so I was pretty wet. Good times!!! |

Dropped Anna off to pre school and headed off. Actually, she likes to run to school (close to a 1/2 mile) so we did.
Felt very good today!!! Mile 4, 5, and 6 were all under 9's. Average pace 9:03. Yeah!!! I was pretty cold to begin with, but once the sun came out I had to take my head band off.

Running today and boy was it cold. 28 as I left. I kept a good steady pace and felt strong doing it. I didnt have time for my Garmin to calibrate or whatever it does for 5 minutes before I use it every day.
Another 4 this afternoon, walking and pushing Anna in the stroller. Was a bit bored at the house, so we decided to go for a walk. She hasnt gone with me for awhile, so that was fun. | |

Same 7 as monday or whenever that was, but I ran it backward, and started at the house not annas school so i got that extra 1/2. My garmin batteries were dead so I didnt take it. I tried to keep a good pace but it would have been cool to see if i actually did or not.
The most miles in a week I think in ever for me!!! Half have been walking, but even the running ones are getting higher.

| | Running with my dad this morning. We went to the Laverkin stake center and back. As we hit the 1/2 way he told me I was running stronger and we were keeping a great pace. Then after about another mile he decided we should run up the pah tempe hill. I think that was either to prove I am not stronger or maybe just to hurt me a bit for being a trouble child. Either way, that is a tough hill. He says I should run it once a week. I think I will try it out. It only hurts for a second.
Beautiful day. It was 50 by the time we got home.

Running with my dad and two of his running buddies today around Sand Hollow Res. It was perfect weather and a great run. It is fun to run with people sometimes and to get away from the same repetitous running that I normally do. Happy to be out there doing it!!

| | Another afternoon run. I went to the Laverkin stake center and back and hit the Pah Tempe hill again on the way back. Felt alot better this time than when I ran it with my dad last week. Last week I walked a few and today I ran the whole thing and kept a much better pace. The whole run I pushed myself. I wish I would have worn my garmin. I always push myself harder for some reason when I dont run with it. That makes no sense. Oh well.
I am feeling stronger everyday and am enjoying it alot!!!

Walking today with 250 lunges. The last few times I have walked I have had shin splints pretty bad so today I tried my new orthotics (I had only ran with them until today) and I felt great. My old ones were held together with duct tape. I guess it is time to retire them.

| | Running today in the rain with my dad. I cant remember ever running in the rain before and cant say I enjoyed it, didn't so much hate it either though. There is supposed to be rain for the race this weekend so it was good initiation for me I suppose. I have enjoyed running with my dad the last few times. He lets me set the pace, (he says anyway) but I always feel faster. Today was definatley a faster pace than normal and it felt great!! Feeling stronger and loving it!!

Dam 2 Dam (5 Miles) 00:41:46, Place overall: 67, Place in age division: 6 | | WOO HOO!!! I took over 6 minutes off of last years time!!!!! I felt absolutely amazing. It was perfect weather, a couple of wind gusts, but overall the temperature was great!!! I went out somewhat fast for me, but felt good so I kept the pace the whole way and it paid off!! I have never ran so fast for so far. I will be a true runner yet!!! 67th overall for both men and woman (240 total runners I believe.) Dont know the count for my place in just womens. Awesome!!!!!

| | Good run today. According to my schedule it was a walking day, but I want to do a long run on wed so I ran today. Feeling really good and kept a decent steady pace up the hills. It was 50 when I left so I was quite warm by the time I got home.

Another walking day today with 250 lunges. I almost quit early cuz there was a bit of rain, but it only lasted for a few minutes. Temperature was good, happy to get outisde for some exercise!!

| | So much for a long run... although today is a day to remember!! I wore my garmin and kept track of my splits. They were 1- 8.24 2- 8.24 3- 8.04 4- 7.46 ( Oh my heavens!! I never would have thought that, my garmin has to be broken!!) 5- 8.23 6- 9.44 (Pah Tempe hill) So, I am amazed and like I said, maybe there is something wrong with my garmin, who knows. Anyway, I felt amazing and strong. I love it. For so long, I just ran (jogged, whatever...slow) and now I am trying to improve. It is like night and day and I feel much better!!!

| | Good run today. I didn't leave until about 11, which was kinda hard. I ate some grapefruit and yogurt at about 9 or 9:30, but by the time I got home I was starving. I mixed in a couple of narly hills and went a way I had never gone before, which was fun. The first 3 was on dirt, then a mix of pavement and sidewalks for the rest. Average 9:22, wore my new Kayanos. Hadn't been over 4 in them until now. They felt good.

| | Another run in the rain today. It was more of a sprinkle and it actually felt good today. I think it is time to retire my first pair of shoes. Woo Hoo! I wore my ascics (my first pair that I have had a little over a year) and had pretty bad shin splits the whole way. I had been wearing them for walking also and had shin splints then too. I thought they were from the other orthotics I was wearing. Now I think it was the shoes (if that is possible). I guess I will find out when I run on wednesday. Last night I looked at my miles from last year,and I logged a little over 700. I figure that most of those miles were in those shoes. So, hopefully that has something to do with the shin splints. I signed up for another 2 runs this morning. The Zion 10k (April) and the Hurricane 1/2 (May), and the Lake 2 Lake is in just 2 weeks. Fun stuff.

| | Walking again today with 250 lunges. I am starting to think I need my custom orthotics back. I had slight shin splints as I started but they did go away. My old orthotics are just trashed and I had to retire them, so I bought some of the heatable molding ones. They are comfy and definately better then nothing. Although, my knee feels weird. I wish I was more knowledgable about bodies and stuff. I will see how I feel after a run tomorrow and go from there. I have signed up for 4 runs in the next 2 months. Need to feel good.

Out to the Laverkin stake center and back and hit the Pah Tempe hill on the way home (about mile 4). Didnt wear my garmin today but felt good and strong. Had shin splints for a short time and my knee felt ok. Felt weird the first few steps, but then felt good. I made an appointment today to get some custom orthotics. I compared what is left of my custom ones to the heatable ones and there is enough of a difference that it very well could be what is affecting my knee. Hopefully that is all it is.

| | Walking again today with 250 lunges. It was quite warm and I had to roll my pants up. I used my old orthotics (what is left of them, anyway) and had no problem with shin splints. That made me happy.

| | Running today. No garmin, but a good steady pace. My knee felt weird the first couple steps again, but then went away. Weird. I tried using my older orthotics today without the padding part and they actually felt ok. I was surprised. I am still going to go to my orthotic appointment today because just cuz they worked for 4 miles doesnt mean they would wrok for 10 or 13 miles.
Anyway, felt good.

Walked with my mom and daughter today and after about 1/2 mile we noticed that the front tire on the stroller was completely flat. So we walked to a friends house and used a pump. By the time we left, it was flat again. Hence only 2 miles. Got home, dropped the stroller off and did 250 lunges. Beautiful temps today!!

I have been using my old orthotics and my knee feels better. Good to know. I am glad I went to the doc to get some new ones. Lake to Lake this weekend. I am excited!!

Walking today with 250 lunges. Beautiful weather and felt great. I love getting outdoors. I have said it before but there is no better way to start the day than with a walk or a run. Anything with some fresh air.
Another 4 miles of walking at night with my friend. We have talked about walking every night, hopefully we will start doing it more faithfully. We both have a few extra pounds we want to get rid of and we have thought that with exercising twice a day we will be able to.

Lake to Lake (10.5 Miles) 01:30:15, Place overall: 16, Place in age division: 8 | |
This was actually a 5 person relay team and my legs totaled 10.5 ish. It was beautiful weather and a awesome run!!! My first leg was about 5.5 and second was right around 5. My team was awesome and we are so happy with our place. Our division place is different (there were 3 different groups) and at this point I am not sure how we did in the mixed division. My first leg was from the Highway 91 and the Gunlock road junction and into Ivins. I had a couple of good hills and was very happy that I have been running Pah Tempe as often as I have. Also had a tail wind. My second was on the trails from Riverside drive to washington by the animal shelter. By my second leg the teams were so spread out that I didnt see anyone other thatn a glimpse of a green shirt once or twice. All in all it couldn't have been better, the second run of mine was a bit tough for the first mile or so and I was cursing myself for not taking any powergel. Live and learn. Good times. This is definately a run I would love to do each year!!

Walking today with 250 lunges. This knee thing is weird. It is uncomfortable when I first start walking but quickly loosens up and feels better. Even just sitting on the couch or anything else, the first few steps feel weird, but quickly goes away. I will probably try one of those knee band things next time I run to see how it feels. 4 Miles of walking also at 9 pm with Paula. We cruise when we walk, it is fun. My knee felt great all day. I wore my orthotics to work which I havent done in years.

| | Running today. I wore a knee band for the first mile and it didnt feel any different than last time I ran so I took it off. Again, the first 1/2 block was the worst and then it got a little better. I think I will just walk the rest of the week and see how it feels monday morning. Dont want to really hurt myself. That would be bad!!

After one run it looks like my dad could be right once again (go figure). Anyway, I kept a good steady pace and my knee felt great. I wore my newest pair of shoes and will again next time I run. That is no good for my pocket book, being as I havent put too many miles on my shoes. I am going to have to get a sign that says will work for shoes.

| | Today, I ran the route that Paula and I walk. Its a loop out in Laverkin. I walked the first 1/2 block, just to warm up my knee a bit then started running. Again, it was uncomfy for another block or something, but then I didnt feel it again the rest run. I have been talking to a few people about it and trying to come up with things I could try to get it all the way better. My boss said yesterday to try running in a non posted shoe to see if I have to much stability with both my orthotics and my posted shoes. To me, that could make sense, but then again, I know nothing. Anyway, I think I will give it a try. Might as well. I just realized today that I have barely over a month to be ready for the Hurricane 1/2. Gotta get a move on training or I will really be hurt.

| | Running in non posted shoes, Asics Nimbus, today. I am not sure what I think about it. They definately dont have as much cushion as I am used to so I cant imagine running very far in them. The whole point in trying them was to see if possibly I dont need a posted shoe ( i.e. would knee pain go away, or would I stay injury free for longer than 3 or 4 months which seems to be the norm for me this year). My knee was the same, uncomfy for the first 1/2 block then not felt again. Mile 3 and 4 I just kept switching back and forth between thinking they would be ok and then back to thinking they just have no cushion, and I would rather run in a posted shoe. I will defintaly have to try them again on one of my next runs to see what I think. It is hard to tell anything after just one run.

Tomorrow I will try running and hope I feel good. Not looking to good for the Hurricane 1/2, but I can always switch to the 5k. There will be other runs and I havent given up completely yet.

| | Running today. I felt GREAT!! Yeah. I ran in my new Nimbus and new orthotics. I have been wearing the orthotics to walk the last 3 or 4 walks and decided to try them running. No knee pain whatsoever and felt strong which was great after not running for a week. My legs are a bit sore after yesterdays lunges but didnt feel them while I was running.

Not pain, and not even discomfort, I just felt something. The two times I have run in my Nimbus (non posted) my knee has been fine. Interesting. I will give it one more run to hopefully determine if I need posted or non.

| | It was warm today. I took Anna to school at nine and then went. I thought the last time I ran the same course it was 6, but then I realized that that time I had gotten a bit lost. Oops. I didnt wear my garmin, but drove where I went after picking anna up from school. Anyway, knee felt good, no pain. I was going to end with Pah Tempe but was tired and hot so I didnt. I have runs the next three weekends but looks like I will be running the 5k for the Hurricane run, unless I decide to be crazy and run the 1/2 even though I am not ready. We will see. I have done crazy stuff once or twice before.

| | 1 hour on the spin bike. It has been crazy cold here all week with winds and snow and rain. My daughter has had some pretty bad allergies so I havent wanted to take her outside to much. She got worse both times I did take her this week. Thank goodness I got the spin bike or I would have had vertually no exercise this week. Gonna be interesting to see how tomorrows race goes. All in fun.

Zion Canyon Centennial Fun Run (6.2 Miles) 00:49:48 | | This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it was beautiful. It felt cold at the start, like many runs do, but I was quickly good and warm. It was a fun run, so no awards, just an official time at the end.
The run started between Big Bend and Emerald pools in Zion canyon and ended at the visitor center. My dad ran with me, so it was a slow time for him, but a big P.R. for me. He always pushes me and then claims he let me set the pace, ha ha. Last night I picked my parents up at the airport and we arrived home about 1 hour before we had to leave for the run. So, we are tired. Neither of us got much sleep and now everyone is ready for a nap.

| | 1 hour spin bike. I love how much I sweat on it, it is such a good workout. Not the same as running but convenient for sure. I hope the cross training will help me to drop the last 8 VERY stubborn pounds I would like to loose. |

I hadnt ran that hill in a month or so and it felt good to run it again. New shoes, Saucony Triumph, neutral shoes. They felt good and running in the neutral Asic nimbus for the run on saturday felt good also. I hope that running in posted was part of my many problems and injuries last year. I am going to take it easy and not over train this year. Oh, I have officially signed up for the St George marathon for 2009. Yeah!! (I think)

I am going to try to keep track of my miles this weekend, but not quite sure how I will do that. Anyway, the relay for life run is tomorrow and saturday. Should be a good time, I hope it cools down a bit, but havent watched the news so I dont know.

| | I got to participate in the Relay for Life 24 hour run that started at noon on friday. The team i was on has been doing it for many years and has quite the system for success. From noon until 11 pm we each ran approximately 15 minutes each and rotated. So on friday I ran 6 times and ran 2 miles each time. To be continued on saturdays blog..... |

Then from 11 pm until 6 am we each took a one hour block. My hour was at 1 am. A walked a good share of it because I knew I would need to save myself for. I counetd 18 laps and had run about 4 of those. Then starting at 6 am we went back on the every 15 minute rotation and I ran 3 more times. This time only going 6 laps.
I only had about 2 hours of sleep at the track and hadnt taken into account how cold it would be with the wind, so it was fitfull sleep. I waked most of the time I was not running so I wouldnt cramp up.
Saturday afternoon i was pretty tired and one knee was sensitive, but other than that feel much better then i would have thought.
I took 3 pair of shoes and rotated them after every 2 or 3 runs. I think that was a good thing and helped me alot.
(Now being monday morning, I feel amazing. No pain whatsoever and am so excited about that.)

Hurricane 1/2 Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:54:19, Place overall: 52, Place in age division: 19 | | Fun stuff!!! It had rained this morning and it was a bit humid at the start, but not to bad. With little to no training, I was a bit worried and kept giving myself positive affirmations to keep focused. I ran with my friend who hadnt trained a whole bunch either so we reassured each other the whole way.
The hill at mile 4 or wherever the biggest one is, was definately more noticable to me than last year and I was happy to get to the downhill, which we flew down. I walked 4 times I think, and I needed it each time. I wanted to break 2 and am way excited about my time. There was one or two times I didint think i was going to be able to do it. Another PR, by 10 minutes, WOO HOO!!!!

1/2 hour spin bike. I wasnt going to do anything today, but at 8 pm, felt yucky and needed to sweat. So I did.

| | Didnt go running until about 9:15 and had Anna in the stroller with me. It was warm. The first half block my knees felt stif but quickly loostend up and felt good the rest of the way. I have signed up for Bryce now and am going to look for another race or two to do between now and then. Happy to be running!!!

| | So today, with Anna in the stroller, we headed toward Laverkin to do the loop that I like out there. We did it backwards for less hills because she is getting big and not as easy to push as she once was. I had to walk and get water 3 times. Thats the same number of times I walked during the 1/2 marathon I did this last weekend. That makes no sense to me. She is bigger and I just felt tired, and warm. Kudos to every single mom that has ever trained for anything!!! It would be hard to push her everytime I went for a run and I have been blessed to have family so that I havent had to.

| | Anna and I slept in today so we didnt go until 10 and it was 70ish or maybe a bit warmer. Even anna got quite warm sitting in the stroller. I have enjoyed the spin bike but still need to get some more miles in. I feel better with running. Anyway, gotta work on that.

| | Out to the Laverkin stake center and then looped back around through residential and hit pah tempe on the way back. It is the same run that killed me last week pushing anna in the stroller, but today i didnt have her so i had enough strength to hit the hill on the way home. I love that hill, but today it hurt. I need to log more miles, gotta try harder.

| | I slept in for a half hour or so, so when I left it was already 70 degrees. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be though because I was in the shade most of the way. I kept a pretty slow pace. It has been a while since I ran more than 5 (other than the half) so I wanted to make sure I had enough energy. I felt good other than needing a bathroom break and having a few miles before I got to the park to use the bathroom there. Good run and hope to get some more miles ran then the last month or so, its been kinda pathetic.

Same 7 as sunday. Ran in Nimbus again and knee is sensitive. Looks like I am a Saucony girl. That sucks cuz I have 2 brand new pair of Nimbus's. Oh well, I can use them for short runs or walking maybe.

| | Ran with my dad today and we averaged 8:30's. It is always nice to find out you can do more or better then you think you can. We ran out to the Laverkin stake center then through the residential. The same loop I have been doing when I have ran that way. Always good to have company.

| | Good run with my dad this morning. We averaged 8:43 (I think) which I am very happy with. Kinda slow for him, but thats nice of him to run slow with me. We just did a loop out and around Hurricane. The temp was great cuz it is pretty cloudy, made for a great run. Felt good and so far knee feels good also. The last 2 runs have been in my old orthotics. We will see what happens.

I did end up with a pretty nasty looking blister. I knew as i put on my socks this morning that i should not wear those particular ones but once again i did not listen to myself. Oh well, it will go away.

Fun times to have some company, although, I think i enjoy shorter runs with people and longer ones by myself. that way i dont feel bad if i have to slow way down or whatever. we kept a pretty good pace, had a couple low 8's but had to walk a couple times which put the average pace at 9. I am happy with that.
